Overview
Afincado en París desde niño, el ilustrador Daniel Urrabieta Vierge (1851 - 1904) siempre quiso ilustrar El Buscón de Quevedo. Alrededor de 1880 comenzó a realizar las primeras ilustraciones, que interrumpió en 1881 un ataque de hemiplejia. Lo que había logrado terminar se publicó en Francia en 1882: noventa dibujos que ilustraban algo más de la mitad de los capítulos de la obra. La parte derecha del cuerpo de Vierge quedó completamente inmovilizada y, además, perdió el habla y la memoria. Con paciencia y trabajo logró aprender a manejar la mano zurda, y por encargo del editor británico Fisher Unwin, a partir de 1888 concluyó con la izquierda El Buscón, que apareció en Londres en 1892 con un total de 120 dibujos. Esta edición ofrece íntegra la versión completa, traducida al español actual por el filólogo Arturo Echavarren, experto en el Siglo de Oro, que por primera vez ha acercado el opaco y culteranista texto de El Buscón, a los lectores de hoy.
